Google Borrows Allo's Smart Reply Feature For Android Messaging App

Google Allo, the instant messaging app which was launched by the Android maker back in 2016 for Android and iOS. The app has some unique features, but the one that got the most attention was the quick replies. The quick replies on Allo are actually powered by the Google Assistant. However, not everyone uses the Allo app for messaging, but, the search giant is integrating the smart reply support to the Android messaging app.

The Project Fi Tweeted, about the smart reply option in the messaging app and said the company is expanding the smart reply support beyond Allo app in Android. The smart reply features enabled the system or app to generate quick replies in the conversation as a suggestion for users. The quick replies are according to the conversation among the users based on the ongoing chat. In order to provide the smart replies, the company requires access to the SMS history with some other Android data. However, the features can be turned Off or turned back On by the users anytime and for the record, Google does not store any messages or chat.

In the tweet, the Project Fi also mentioned that the Allo’s smart reply feature in Android messaging is only out for the Project Fi users currently.  

Project Fi is a Google-owned virtual network operator which was founded in 2015 by the search giant. The company provides phone, messaging and data service using both cellular data and WiFi. The Project Fi automatically switches between the networks, depending on the signal strength and also seamlessly transfer the phone calls between Wifi and cellular data. The Project Fi currently provides its service to 135 countries across the globe. So, the Android users only with the Project Fi subscription is able to enjoy the smart replies in the messaging app for now.

Meanwhile, as per the tweet is quite questionable and strange why the Google WiFi-based carrier is getting the feature exclusively. It is quite unclear that when the other network carriers will be getting the smart replies in the Android messaging app.
