Google Is Finding A Famous Painting Match To Your Selfie, And It's Going Viral
The Internet is always filled with the latest trend that people are following and it takes only a few hours to get something viral. The latest sensation is the Google Art & Culture app’s new update making people go crazy. The app compares your face to all the historic painting in the Google’s database and then finds your perfect doppelganger. The more and more user’s are becoming the part of ‘find your painting doppelganger’ campaign and sharing their matches over the social media.
Google launched the app back in 2016 and the company explained that the new feature is just an experiment. In order to find your duplicate from the history, users need to capture their selfie in the app. Afterwards, the app takes the photo and tries to find out the match from thousands of historical art pieces shared by museums and institutes with Google. Once the app finds the perfect match it will show you the matched painting alongside your selfie. The app uses the Google’s face recognition algorithm to find out the resemblance between your face and the paintings available on its server and shares the closest match.
The app has topped the chart of the most downloaded free app in Apple’s App Store with millions of downloads. On Saturday, Google Art & Culture also grabbed the no. 1 spot in the US shared by App Annie.
If you dare to find out your painted twin then the app is available for both iOS and Android with the new update. However, the app is Geo-restricted to the US region, for now, so if you are somewhere else, you need to switch on your VPN to find your identical art piece. The app has flooded the social media platforms with user’s posts with images showing their painting-match. Where some people find the result totally wrong and insulting, most of the users are enjoying their face being matched to a painting hanged in a museum.
But, why the Google Arts and Culture’s ‘Face Match’ is making so much buzz? There are two reasons behind the feature becoming so much popular. The first is the internet’s most admirable rule for this generation of being ‘new’, every new & different tool becomes viral over the social media. People like to share the results of effect with their friends and followers over the different platforms. And, another reason is the curiosity of finding out your own resemblance with hundreds of years old person whose painting has been hanging in art and culture shows for decades.
