With the help of these reviews, most of the users get an idea about the business and its reputation. "Contributions to Google Maps should accurately represent the location in question. Where contributions distort the truth, we will remove the content. This includes reviews, photos, or videos not related to the location or business where they are tagged. If the content is inaccurately placed on the map or is associated with an incorrect listing, the contribution may be rejected." Google updated the guidelines. The search giant also added that the content contributed by the Maps user is very valuable when it is honest and unbiased and the company prohibited the following actions.
  • Reviewing your own business.
  • Posting negative content about a current or former employment experience.
  • Posting negative content about a competitor to manipulate their ratings.
Now, Reviewing your own business is not possible on the Maps by the users and posting intentional negative reviews against a competitor's is not allowed by Google.
As per new guidelines, posting an opposing review for any organization or business is not acceptable by the Google My business tool. In addition to this, in cases where someone still posts any negative review about the company, then the business owner can ask the Google to remove those reviews. This means if a former employee is messing with you by posting unwelcoming reviews for your organization you can get it removed by requesting Google.
According to Google, the negative reviews about the former employer has the potential to damage the company’s reputation and can lead to the loss of actual clients. This can be used by the business competitors against each other to affect the business rating on the My business tool. Moreover, this leaves the employees only with few outside business review platforms like Glassdoor to post something against their former or current employer.
