Mark Zuckerberg Announces A Big Change In Facebook's News Feed
Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announces that the Facebook’s news feed is getting the new algorithm to show more user connected content.
On Thursday, Mark Zuckerberg announces to make major changes in the Facebook’s news feed section. He said that the platform will start showing more relevant content instead of unwanted videos and photos. The Facebook, CEO wants to bring back the family and friends related content on the news feed by cutting viral topics. The upcoming news feed algorithm will prioritize the content related to user’s connection according to Zuckerberg.
“We built Facebook to help people stay connected and bring us closer together with the people that matter to us. That's why we've always put friends and family at the core of the experience. Research shows that strengthening our relationships improves our well-being and happiness.” Mark Zuckerberg wrote on this page. He mentioned that the Facebook's core aim is to feel user connected to their family and friend and it is getting back on track to achieve that.
In recent years we have seen that the Facebook has become more of a content sharing platform than a place to get connected. Now, Zuckerberg has decided to de-prioritize the business-related posts and videos and deliver more users oriented material on the news feed. “But recently we've gotten feedback from our community that public content -- posts from businesses, brands, and media -- is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other.” he wrote.
While going through the Facebook account most of our time spent scrolling through the viral videos, business ads or promotional contents from businesses. The post or comments on any friend's post are very less compared to these promotional contents. Facebook has become more focused on monetizing the space by allowing more and more sponsored and ads by publishers. The move from the social media giant will de-prioritize the public content that is filled with user’s comment and likes. This means you will find more friends comments what they are up to rather than shared video. “The research shows that when we use social media to connect with people we care about, it can be good for our well-being. We can feel more connected and less lonely, and that correlates with long-term measures of happiness and health. On the other hand, passively reading articles or watching videos -- even if they're entertaining or informative -- may not be as good.” Zuckerberg wrote further in the post.
However, Zuckerberg accepted that the change will definitely affect some of the businesses and will result in lesser traffic. But, he mentioned that if Facebook will do the right thing for its users then it will be good for business in the long-term. Mark Zuckerberg also wants to make the user’s time spent on the social media be more valuable.
